Sing for Burma in Halifax

Christians in Halifax have organised a fundraising 'Sing for Burma' event this Saturday (31 May) to highlight the plight of people affected by the recent cyclone in the country.

Supported by Churches Together is Halifax, the afternoon event will feature musicians and singers from churches and Christian organisations in the area including the group Hymns and Hers, folk duo Forever Young and Phil Townend (brother of singer/songwriter Stuart).

"Christian Aid are one of the few organisations who have aid workers on the ground in Burma, and they have agreed to support us on Saturday, and will be collecting specifically for the work their organisation are doing in Burma," said one of the organisers, Neil Making.

"If we feel so strongly about the suffering of those affected in Burma, can we just stand by and do nothing, or put £5 in a collecting tin? We think the whole world should be shaking at the injustice of allowing such suffering, and our event is maybe a slight tremble but maybe others will take notice and join the shout for justice."

Sing for Burma takes place at the Halifax Piece Hall from 12 noon on 31 May. Further information from neilmaking@hotmail.co.uk
