Huddersfield Young Singers Concert

Monday 18th February 2019 2:31PM

What a wonderful evening. The Huddersfield Young Singers, led by James and Jo Lewis with Richard on keyboard, entertained a packed church with a variety of songs and instrumental playing. Over 40 children and teenagers entertained us and were given well deserved applause. Even the group of little voices (4 to 7 year olds) sang and showed us their warm-up excercises. It really was a brilliant evening and a vote of thanks was given by Neil Making. Thanks to everyone who came and supported the concert.

Ackley Bridge

Saturday 2nd February 2019 1:23PM

The singing group at Illingworth Moor Church, “Hymns and Hers”, were recently asked to be in an episode of Ackley Bridge. Filming took place at Mount Zion Church on a cold and snowy afternoon and it was very interesting seeing how this Channel 4 production was made. It surprised us how many people were involved in the recording of this school drama plus the cast of youngsters and staff. We had a thoroughly enjoyable experience and look forward to seeing the episode on television sometime in the future.

The May meeting of our Tuesday Fellowship was opened by Georgie Stirrat who presented Mrs Anne Pratt to the group. Anne is a retired teacher and was headmistress at Laycock Primary School in Keighley. She went there in 1991 when the school was celebrating its centenary and told us that it was a Victorian building with about 70 pupils ranging from 5 to 9 years old. She said that such a small school, with only 3 classes, was a delight to be in and it had such a family atmosphere. It was a highly regarded school and parents did what… [read more]

School Assembly

Wednesday 21st March 2018 1:54PM

A group of Church members, led by Rev. Paul Welch and Pauls Prosser regularly take assemblies at two local Primary schools. This morning we were at Whitehill School telling and acting the story of Daniel in the lion's den. Paula then led short prayer and Paul normally leads the children in a modern song with plenty of actions. The children seem to really like the assemblies and are always very enthusiastic when we go. The group also visit Abbey Park School.
